Every year, coastal municipalities in Sweden face the recurring problem of managing the enormous amounts of algae, approximately 400,000 tons, that wash up on their shores. This process is both costly and inefficient, as the algae are often returned to the sea without any added benefit. However, collecting the algae helps keep beaches clean and boosts tourism, which is advantageous for the municipalities.

To address these issues, research into the properties of algae has led to the development of an innovative, environmentally friendly, and sustainable insulation material. Currently, the algae have no profitable use and impose a financial burden on the municipalities. Through research, we have discovered that the unique properties of algae can be effectively utilized in the construction industry as an insulation material.
